I spent my formative years in Littleton, Colorado and began playing guitar around age 18. After spending a few uninspired years at the University of Colorado at Boulder as an advertising major, I applied to the College of Music and graduated not too soon thereafter with a performance degree in Classical Guitar. While attending CU I was privileged to work with accomplished educator and musician Charles Wolzien from whom I learned a tremendous amount. While in college I played many genres of music with various musicians in Denver and Boulder. During college I was also extremely fortunate to study with legendary educator and guitarist Dale Bruning. I'm still digesting the many things that were implicitly and explicitly taught. Influenced by countless musicians, I strive to express myself in ways that highlight my "voice" and to clearly articulate my individual perspective. After being drawn to Seattle by a fellow musician, I was thrilled to begin teaching in a pre-school/Kindergarten classroom at University Child Development School, a local independent elementary school. My time at UCDS consisted of a year of classroom teaching and two years as the Extended Day Program Director. Working in such a tremendous school provided me with incredible opportunities to teach and learn from master teachers. While working at UCDS I enrolled in graduate school to pursue a Masters. By the Fall of 2007 I will hold a Masters Degree in Teaching and a K-8 teaching certificate from Washington State. I'm currently gigging and teaching as much as possible and, as always, looking for time to shed. |
